April’s work in various school districts throughout San Diego County has contributed to her dedication to helping parents in the community. Among her various roles in schools she has provided school counseling, outpatient individual and family therapy, staff workshops/trainings, sat in on close to 100 IEP meetings, worked with various special education advocates/lawyers in the community, conducted educationally related mental health assessments and currently consults with education assessment agencies in the San Diego community. Some of the school districts April has worked with include; San Diego Unified, San Dieguito Union High School District, San Marcos Unified, Lemon Grove, Lakeside, La Mesa/Spring Valley, Grossmont, Julian, and Cajon Valley.

April currently offers parent counseling services which are geared more towards providing parents with the skills and parenting techniques to manage difficult behaviors or distressing symptoms exhibited by their child/adolescent who may be struggling with mental health concerns or another type of disability. Additionally, April provides parent/school consulting services which gives the option for parents to come in and get specific feedback and recommendations about how to navigate their child’s mental health concerns in the school setting, including navigating the special education world. April has a unique skill set to provide the education and advocacy around what mental health supports your child may need to be successful in the educational world!

I currently provide individualized school based consultation for my clients when needed ( which can look like attending IEP meetings with families, consulting and making clinical/behavior recommendations to staff about how to work with your child, recommending more assessments when relevant, and advocating for your child to have a successful individualized educational plan (IEP) with specific accommodations and services that are appropriate for them).
